About Low Carbon Austenitic Stainless Steel Welding Electrode

Material - Stainless Steel

Length - 350 mm

Diameter - 2.5 to 5 mm

Welding Current - 50 to 180 Amps

Tensile Strength - 57 kgf/mm2 (min)

Elongation - 35% (min)

6616L is a low heat input, Low carbon, Austenitic stainless steel electrode suitable for welding of AISI 316L/316, 317, 318 types and similar composition. The special addition of molybdenum increases the creep resistance at elevated temperatures and offers good resistance to pitting corrosion. The controlled carbon content reduces the possibility of inter granular carbide precipitation. The weld metal deposit is resistant to sulfuric, hydrochloride, acetic, phosphoric, citric acid etc. It has a smooth running arc and easy removal of slag. With excellent strike and re-strike during welding.

Applications :

It is an excellent choice for critical fabrication and repair applications of galvanizing zinc tanks, chemical tanks and equipment, textile and other dyeing equipment, paper and pulp mill tanks, pickling tanks, salt processing equipment, alkali tanks, paint and dye industry, as well as in fertilizer industry, etc.

Procedure :

Rebake the electrodes at 200°C for 1 hour to prevent blowholes in the weld deposit. Clean weld area. Clamp and tack weld at short intervals. Use back up plates to minimize distortion on thin sheets. Use electrode on AC/DC+ at the lowest amps. Maintain very short arc and chip slag between passes. Avoid weaving. Follow the recommended welding parameters to achieve sound welds.
